It was an experience to "see the voices" but not to hear them. I hope you all enjoyed our study and discussion. There were several types of distinctive comment, ranging from approaches that criticized all normative approaches and expressed the opinion that after the Holocaust and in the present situation we must draw Jews near and not make belonging to the Jewish people difficult. On the other side of the discussion there were those who expressed halakhic and tranditional views. I found both of these approaches wortrhwhile in that they came from the heart, and were based on experience in educational situations. I was especially taken by those in the middle who have a faith in the ability of the Jews to live within their tradition but, somehow, on their own terms. There is great faith in saying and believing, after the Holocaust, "don't make things worse than they are by excessive theorizing. Jews know how to react - by acting as Jews." And a fourtrh approach, also traditional , found the restorative capabilities of the tradition in the existential encounters it makes possible. Many thanks to all of you.
I wish you all a Happy Pesach, and continued learning and thinking. As I said, it was a pleasure to talk with you. Sincerely, Michael Rosenak
