[NGFP-BookClub] Response to Avigdor's query re HLA, plus....

Dear Avigdor and Fellow Students:
 
I apologize for the delay in the answer to your (Avigdor's) query re the  
translation of the HLA given in The Concise Family Seder Haggadah that  was 
prepared by Rabbi Alfred J. Kolatch. Life cycle events on both ends of the  
spectrum have kept me from my computer until now.
 
The translation, spelled, capitalized and italicized as  printed, reads as 
follows:    
    
    "Like the kindly Rabbi Huna, the third-century  principal of the great 
academy of learning in Babylonia, who struggled for a  livelihood early in life 
and learned to open his heart to the poor and his door  to the hungry, let us 
say:
 
    "Behold this matza - the symbol of  affliction and poverty. It is the 
bread that our ancestors ate as slaves in the  Land of Egypt. We are mindful 
tonight of the hardships they suffered and the  cruelty they endured.
    "To all who are in need we therefore say: We know  your suffering, and we 
are anxious to help you in your need. To all who are  hungry we say: Come and 
join us in our abundance.
    "Let it be known to all men that, because of our  history, we understand 
the plight of the poor, we know what it is to suffer. We  pray with them, and 
for them, that the coming year will bring  with it the promise of a better 
life."
