    Dear Students:

After our brief Passover break, we are ready to resume with the
next-to-last lesson, this one about the early life of Moses, pp.
287-308.

The whole point of this course has been to try to see 1) how ancient
interpreters interpreted, and 2) how important their interpretations
were in shaping the way we read and understand the Bible today.

For this next unit, I'd suggest we focus on one or two of the items
discussed in the chapter and try to see first what the biblical text
itself seems to be saying, and then what the interpreters said it was
saying. You can choose whichever subjects you want, but my suggestions
would be: Moses and the Burning Bush (Exod. 3:1-16), and the incident at
inn on Moses' way back to Egypt (Exod. 4:24-26). What were these meant
to communicate -- and how did they change?
